By now, some readers have figured out a designer is behind this blog and these Frenchies. (In James Bond speak: Designer. Graphic Designer. Sans Serif, straight up. No oblique.)
Why bring this up now? Because in a couple of weeks the Dog Writers Association of America will announce the winners of their yearly writing competition. This designer had the joy and privilege of completely redesigning and producing the last year of the Frenchie Forum print newsletter, an official publication of the 111-year-old French Bull Dog Club of America. (In a move to keep up with the times, the Forum itself has been retired, and its content is now available online, via the club website.)
The newsletter, and many of its individual feature stories and articles, were submitted for judging in the 2008 DWAA Annual Writing Competition. Happily, the Frenchie Forum was nominated in the category of: National Club Publication, Newsletter Format. (The Poodle Papers and American Chesapeake Bulletin are the other contenders.) Also, an article written by club member, Virginia Rowland, is up for an award in the category of: Club Publication, editorial/opinion/essay. (Naturally, we are rooting for her, too!)
The winning newsletter will be announced at the DWAA Awards Ceremony Banquet on February 8, along with the other category winners. This banquet is traditionally held the evening before the start of The Westminister Kennel Club dog show, another reason to look forward to February. (FYI: Frenchies show at 8 AM EST on Monday, February 9th!)
And yes, it really is just an honor to be nominated for one of these awards. It is a nice nod of recognition to all the volunteers who worked so hard and donated their time to write, assemble, and publish a club publication.
