Win a Yuko Shimizu autographed drawing in Vegas

If you are headed to Las Vegas in early June, check out the Licensing International Expo at the Manadaly Bay hotel. Yuko Shimizu, creator of Rebecca Bonbon and Hello Kitty, will be at the Fremantle Enterprises Booth 704 between 4 pm and 5.30 pm on Tuesday June 2, 2009. She’s offering a chance to win an autographed drawing of Rebecca Bonbon.

Though going to Vegas probably means leaving your Frenchie at home, I’m sure he/she won’t mind too much as long as you promise to win some of that green stuff and spend part of it on some nice treats. Good luck!

Featured in Diablo: A Frenchie and her Pal

One of the blogs we like to drop in on is Pretty Little Things by Lori Marie Johnson. She has wonderful, crafty projects and items to share. All overseen by her brindle Frenchie Matilda.

They just had a nice write-up in a local San Francisco magazine called Diablo. Enjoy the May 2009 article online:

A good paper cut

Looking for a different sort of art style? Check out Becky Crane’s paper cut art. (How fitting her last name is Crane!) She creates art by cutting out outlines and contrasting the result with a different color of paper behind it.

Her Esty store features several breeds, but guess one we like the best? :-)

You can also visit her website. Her profile says she also does custom pieces, along with paper sculpture and woodcarvings. See more on her website and blog.

Obey the Frenchie

We braved the H1N1 (Swine) flu pandemic this weekend and ventured forth to the Old Pecan Street Festival to see artists displaying their creations. Historic 6th Street is blocked off for this festival each year and the street is lined with arts and craft booths, food vendors, jugglers, and lots of interesting looking people for over four city blocks.

Last year we found this wonderful printmaking artist selling dog/breed art, and there she was again! What makes this artist so special, is not just her art, it’s that she doesn’t have a website and only sells at art fairs. So you won’t find her art at dog shows. Below is one of the pieces we bought and are showing with the artist’s permission.

If revolutionary art isn’t not your cup of tea, she has several very different styles of art and covers a wide range of breeds. Some cute, some painterly. She even has a very elegant, non-dog series of leaves with a shimmering foil/metallic ink treatment.

She said she lives in Colorado and only comes to Texas once a year for the Old Pecan Street Festival. If you live outside Texas, keep an eye out for Julie Hasenfratz at your local art festival.
