Up for Auction: Texas State Basket 2009
At the French Bulldog National Specialty, held by the French Bull Dog Club of America, there are many events going on, including several fund raisers for various Frenchie causes: health issues, rescue, and the task of putting on one of the biggest Frenchie fests in the world!
One fun event is the State Basket Auction. Frenchie fanciers from various states (and countries) assemble baskets reflecting a theme or state-centric items from their state. The baskets are displayed on tables around the main show room before the auction for viewing and drooling pleasure. Very nice, very appealing things for the Frenchie fancier makes its way into these baskets. Some of these baskets can be humongous and you wonder how people got them there and how-oh-how are the winners going to get them home?!?
The bidding action takes place after one of the specialty event dinners. The auctioneer warms up the crowd and people start bidding away. You never know what item will catch a bidder’s eye. (A hot basket last year had underwear with Frenchies on them and the bidding was fast and furious until a lucky winner was declared.) Some of the basket bidding wars can get very entertaining when bidding fever takes over.
This year’s Texas theme is Spoiled Frenchies. (As opposed to spoiled rotten? 
) What sort of things would you expect to go in a basket like that? Take a look at what’s been added so far and the list of goodie ideas to select from. You are welcome to add to the basket whether you are a FBDCA member or not. You only have to be a fan of Frenchies to contribute to any of the fund-rasiers during Nationals. In fact, you don’t have to be a FBDCA member to attend the specialty or to make a bid. If Frenchies are your thing, this is a show to check out and event to attend.
